About Fairtrade

Fairtrade is about better prices, decent working conditions and fair terms of trade for the farmers and workers who grow the coffee, tea, cocoa, sugar, bananas and many other products we consume every day.

FAIRTRADE MarkThe FAIRTRADE Mark is the most trusted ethical label in the world. Look for it when you shop for an assurance that the products you are buying have been produced in accordance with our strict Standards which:

  • set minimum prices for products to ensure a sustainable income,
  • protect workers’ rights,
  • prohibit child labour and gender discrimination, and
  • protect the environment.

Fairtrade provides real impact and benefits for 1.66 million farmers and workers in 73 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa and the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific region.

One of the major benefits they receive is the social Fairtrade Premium which is invested democratically by the producers themselves in many ways. Examples include:

  • improving the quality and yield of their crops,
  • purchasing facilities and equipment,
  • investing in training, and
  • improving rural communities with schools, health care, roads, clean water and other projects.
