Grace Mennonite Church – Faith Group of the Year

Canadian Fairtrade Awards
by Ian Brown, Fairtrade Canada

In a series of blog posts, we are pleased to be showcasing the winners of the 2016 Canadian Fairtrade Awards. The Canadian Fairtrade Awards recognize exceptional Fairtrade supporters and are an opportunity to celebrate all of the great work done in the year by businesses, organizations and individuals.

The 2016 Faith Group of the Year winner is Grace Mennonite Church in Brandon, MB.

Here are some details about why Grace Mennonite Church won the Faith Group of the Year award:

  • The Church has been purchasing fair trade coffee for more than a decade.
  • Since December 2015 the Church lobby has had a display of fair trade products and producer stories, updated monthly, to allow congregants and guests to explore the world of fair trade.
  • Fairtrade coffee and tea are served at monthly potlucks and other Church events.

"We are excited to be part of such an amazing movement!  Being recognized on a national level as a Fair Trade leader is an honour, and will hopefully inspire other faith groups to make the leap to Fair Trade!"
