The annual Canadian Fairtrade Awards evaluation process is now underway, with our independent panel of judges carefully reviewing dozens of applications across the 14 awards categories. The winners will be kept a closely guarded secret until the presentation of the awards in Ottawa on March 2nd.
It was inspiring to see the strength of the applications from so many businesses, individuals, designated Fair Trade Programs, and community groups. We here at Fairtrade Canada are so thankful for all the good work being done in the fair trade movement across the country, and we don’t envy our judges the difficult task of choosing the winners.
Among the businesses contending for awards such as Product of the Year, Licensee of the year and Excellence in Producer Partnership were well-known coffee brands including Balzacs, Canterbury, Doi Chaang, Ethical Bean, Keurig and Kicking Horse. Other product categories were well represented by companies such as Camino, Etik & Co., Nature’s Path and Prana.
Competition was also strong amongst designated Fair Trade programs including Towns, Campuses, Schools, Workplaces. Events in particular was a popular category - it attracted the most entries, with numerous excellent happenings from across the country all very worthy, but there can be only one winner!
Good luck to everyone who applied, and we look forward to seeing you at the presentation ceremony on March 2nd. Free tickets for the presentation ceremony are available through Eventbrite, or you can RSVP on Facebook.
