Do I Need to Register?
Each organization in the Fairtrade supply chain, from the producer until the point of packaging, is audited and submits reports so that Fairtrade Canada can assure consumers that products carrying the Fairtrade Mark have been produced and traded according to Fairtrade standards.
Activities that require registration
Companies must register with Fairtrade Canada when their activities include any of the following:
- Paying the Fairtrade Minimum Price and Premium directly to producers
- Importing unfinished Fairtrade certified goods from the country of origin
- Buying or selling unfinished Fairtrade certified goods
- Selling bulk unfinished Fairtrade certified products to other companies
- Processing or manufacturing a Fairtrade certified product
- Packaging or preparing a Fairtrade certifiedproduct for the end consumer
- Applying the Fairtrade Mark to a product (also ask permission to use the Fairtrade Mark on promotional materials)
- Selling a finished, consumer-ready Fairtrade certified product under their own brand
No need to Register
You DO NOT need to register if you:
- Simply plan to carry Fairtrade certified products (that aren't carrying your own brand) in your retail store(s)
- If you are a distributor or wholesaler of Fairtrade certified consumer-ready products
- If you are transporting or storing Fairtrade certified products that belong to another company
