Thousands of Torontonians signed the Cadbury* Dairy Milk* Fair Trade Pledge at the corner of Yonge and Dundas streets in downtown Toronto on Tuesday August, 17, 2010. 5,000 Fair Trade Certified Cadbury Dairy Milk bars were distributed alongside the pledge to raise awareness that small purchases can make a big difference.

Mr. James Anane Mensah, a cocoa farmer from the Kuapa Kokoo Cooperative in Ghana which supplies Cadbury with Fair Trade cocoa, traveled from Ghana to Canada to share his stories and enlist Canadians’ support for Fair Trade In Canada, chocolate often represents an indulgence. Now, thanks to the arrival of new Fair Trade Certified Cadbury Dairy Milk, chocolate also represents improved education, better healthcare and access to clean water for more than 40,000 farmers in Ghana, their families, and their communities.

The Fair Trade Pledge will travel across Canada until August 30, 2010 encouraging Canadians to add their names as a sign of support for the principles of Fair Trade.

While in Canada, Mr. Mensah will also be encouraging everyone to sign the Fair Trade Pledge. The Pledge is a simple way to endorse the principles of Fair Trade and support the concept that we can make a big difference, one small purchase at a time.
