Peru trip spawns Fair Trade Kamloops
August, 2010
Fair Trade is more than just coffee and one local group is raising local awareness about the global movement.
Fair Trade Kamloops, together with Nature’s Fare Markets, will be hosting an exhibit at the food store, 1350 Summit Dr., on Saturday, Aug. 14 from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The event will include taste-testing of Oxfam fair trade cola, sparkling ice tea and rice cakes.
The group was born from a Thompson Rivers University fair-trade event, where TRU student Adina Gray shared her research on fair-trade coffee farmers from her recent travels to Peru.
“Although most of the event participants were familiar with the fair-trade system, I think they were surprised to realize how much of an impact it really has on the lives of millions of poor farmers around the world,” she said.
