Frozen Chocolate Bananas

  Frozen Chocolate Bananas
Frozen chocolate bananas, complete with sprinkles, and a handful of chocolate covered cherries for good measure.

Beat the summer heat with this delicious treat that’s as easy to make as it is delicious.

Makes 10 frozen chocolate banana pops and only takes 15mins (plus 45mins or so of cooling time).

Ingredients

  • 5 ripe but firm Fair Trade Certified bananas
  • 16 ounces Fair Trade Certified chocolate (milk or dark), or semisweet chocolate chips
  • 5 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup of sprinkles, flaked coconut, chopped nuts, or any other topping (optional)

Materials

  • 10 Popsicle sticks, bamboo skewers, or wooden chopsticks

Preparation

  1. Line a baking sheet with nonstick foil or parchment paper.

  2. Cut the bananas in half (crosswise) and insert a Popsicle stick, skewer, or chopstick into each half.

  3. Place them on the baking sheet and freeze for 15-20 minutes.

  4. While the bananas are cooling, melt the chocolate with the oil using a double boiler or, if you do not have one, fill a pot with water and boil with another pot that fits over top. (about 2-4 minutes). Failing that, you could always use a microwave to melt the chocolate. Stir until smooth.

  5. Roll each banana half in the chocolate, then quickly sprinkle with your topping. If using nuts, put on a separate plate and roll each banana until covered evenly.

  6. Freeze until the chocolate sets, 30 minutes to an hour.

  7. Serve or freeze in an airtight container for up to a week.
