Fairtrade Canada Industry Event Preview

Fairtrade Canada

Fairtrade Canada staff will be busy at a number of trade events this fall, making connections with businesses looking to make a new commitment to ethical purchasing as well as renewing ties with our existing licensees.

First up is CHFA East, taking place At the Metro Toronto Convention Centre on September 14-15. Look for us at booth #240 where Helen Reimer and John Marron will be on hand to talk to you about how Fairtrade can make a difference in corporate social responsibility for your business. We will showcase some new Fairtrade products and direct you to other booths featuring brands dedicated to Fairtrade. Join us for an evening social at 5:15 on Saturday September 14 – email license@fairtrade.ca for location and other details.

The following weekend we will be in attendance at the Canadian Coffee & Tea Show taking place at the Toronto Congress Centre on September 22 and 23, as well as the Coffee Association of Canada Conference being held concurrently on the Monday.  Gariné Aintablian and John Marron will be walking the floor all weekend to raise awareness of how Fairtrade works to benefit 1.66 million farmers and workers in the Global South. With the price paid to farmers for their crops falling ever lower, the security of the Fairtrade Minimum Price and additional Fairtrade Premium cannot be understated. At the Coffee & Tea Show, we are proud to co-sponsor a networking event where attendees can make new connections with leaders in the coffee and tea industry. This will take place on the Sunday at 5pm.

Over the past year, we have seen a significant increase of interest in Fairtrade cotton and textiles. If you work in those areas and want to explore ethical sourcing options that consumers are looking for, Helen Reimer will be at two major events in October. The World Ethical Apparel Roundtable (WEAR) Conference takes place at the Beanfield Centre in Toronto October 7 and 8, with Helen presenting a breakout session about Supply Chain Transparency on day 1. And the Textile Exchange Sustainability Conference will be held at the Vancouver Convention Centre October 15-18.
