On Monday, September 23, 2013, McGill University celebrated Canada's first ever Fair Trade Campus Week with the announcement that it had been officially designated a Fair Trade Campus by Fairtrade Canada.
I was pleased to be at McGill for the opening ceremonies and to participate in this very exciting event. Special thanks go out to Oliver de Volpi, McGill’s Executive Chef, Operations and Sustainability his role in organizing it.
The Fair Trade Campus program is a celebration of the leadership of students and administrators alike in support of fair trade. McGill is the 5th Fair Trade Campus in Canada and the first uiversity in Quebec to achieve the designation. There are currently six Fair Trade Campuses in Canada and campaigns at more than 20 universities and colleges across the country activley pursuing the status.
